Botanical Garden

Chandigarh are one of the main tourist attraction places of this beautiful city. There are two botanical gardens in Chandigarh, India, one located in the Punjab University and another between the Rock Garden and Sukhna Lake in Sector 1. The botanical garden of Punjab University has distinctive varieties of plants. On one corner, you can find cacti and succulent plants, while; the other corner contains several evergreen and exotic plants. Also, you can find gorgeous lotus flowers over here. The botanical garden that lies between the rock garden and Sukhna Lake is spread on an area of 88 acres. The best part about this garden are the rare species of plants and small lily pools. Apart from these two botanical gardens, one more garden of such kind is in the process of establishment, where you'll be able to find indigenous plant species and trees of medicinal value.

Rose garden

Rose garden of Chandigarh, India is the largest of its kind in Asia. Named after India's former President, Zakir Hussain, this beautiful garden was set up in 1967 with the support of Chandigarh's first Chief Commissioner, late Dr M S Randhawa. Chandigarh rose garden contains more than 17,000 plants. There are nearly 1,600 varieties of roses over there. It is a spacious garden covering an area of 27 acres. Dr. Zakir rose garden not just consists of the gorgeous roses, but also trees of medicinal value. Some of the medicinal plants that can be spotted here are bel, bahera, harar, camphor and yellow gulmohar. Rose garden serves as the venue for hosting the annual festival of gardens, a major cultural event of the city.

Terraced garden

Covering an area of 10 acres, Terrace garden in Chandigarh, India was set up in the year 1979. It is located in Sector 33. The main attraction factor of terraced flower garden is its lighted musical fountain, where popular folk as well as film songs are played. It serves as the main venue for conducting the Chrysanthemum Show that is held annually. Chandigarh terraced flower garden contains exquisite varieties of flowering plants. The atmosphere over here is very tranquil and people frequently visit this garden in the evenings to enjoy the cool breeze and to feast their eyes with the surrounding beauty.

Cactus Garden near Chandigarh, India is the largest succulent botanical garden of Asia. It is located at a distance of about 8 kms from the city of gardens. Situated in the heart of the city of Panchkula, it covers a total area of 7 acres. Cactus garden is known for its rare & endangered species of Indian succulents. You can spot nearly 3500 different kinds of species over there. Chandigarh Cactus Garden was set up in the year 1987. This unique garden consists of three green houses. It has been drawing more and more crowds every year, consisting not just of tourists, but botanists also.

Smriti Upavan

Smriti upvan of Chandigarh, India is a beautiful garden filled with trees. It is located between Rock Garden and Sukhna Lake in Sector 1. This garden was set up in 1988 with the view of planting trees for the departed souls. The term Smriti means 'remembrance' and Upavan means 'forest'. In the Chandigarh Smriti Upavan, the first banyan tree was planted by the then adviser Mr. Ashok Pradhan, in the memory of our first prime minister, Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru. Smriti Upavan serves as an apt place for silence and remembrance.

Shanti Kunj

Shanti Kunj garden in Chandigarh is situated at a very peaceful place that is free from any noise and pollution. Therefore, it has been rightly named as Shanti Kunj. It is located between the Rose Garden and the Cricket Stadium in Sector 16. In the Chandigarh Shanti Kunj park, you can find different varieties of plants and trees like vertical shaped trees, trees that provide shade, trees apt for environment and flowering trees. Also the garden contains a plenty of medicinal plants that are utilized to cure several diseases. There is a natural stream that runs through this garden and also is responsible for dividing the whole area into five different segments.

Rock garden

The Rock Garden is a sculpture garden in Chandigarh, India. Spread over an area of forty-acre (160,000 m), it is completely built of industrial & home waste and thrown-away items. The Rock Garden project was secretly initiated by Nek Chand around 1957. It was discovered by the authorities in 1975, by which time it had grown into a twelve-acre complex of interlinked courtyards, each filled with hundreds of pottery-covered concrete sculptures of dancers, musicians, and animals. The authorities took over, and the garden was inaugurated as a public space in 1976. It is presently run by the Rock Garden Society. The Garden The Rock Garden is still made out of recycled materials. It is situated near Sukhna Lake. It consists of man-made interlinked waterfalls and many other sculptures that have been made of scrap & other kinds of wastes (bottles, glasses, bangles, tiles, ceramic pots, sinks, electrical waste, etc) which are placed in walled paths. This creation has even appeared on the Indian stamp in the year 1983.
